"Commissioned to be built at the end of the 17th century by the Bishop of Miranda, Dom Manuel de Moura Manoel, the chapel of Our Lady of Penha de França is one of the main points of interest in the Vista Alegre estate.
An impressive building of fine architecture, it features on its main façade a statue in finely carved stone of Our Lady of Penha de França, the patron saint of Vista Alegre. Of particular note in the interior are the 17th century tiles, the decorated marble panels, the gilded woodcarvings and the roof vaults decorated with beautiful frescos. In the bay of the sanctuary sits the imposing episcopal tomb of Dom Manuel de Moura Manoel, a magnificent work in Ança stone by the artist Claude Laprade, and one of the main points of interest of this chapel.
The Chapel of Vista Alegre was acquired in a public auction on 26 of October 1816 by José Ferreira Pinto Basto and was classified as a National Monument in the year 1910."
