This hospital was founded in 1911 as Regionalspital Rheinfelden. In 1999 it merged with the hospital of the neighboring district Laufenburg and has become a branch of the newly founded Gesundheitszentrum Fricktal.
The original building of 1911 is still in use, but has become only a small annex of the extensional buildings added over the decades. The proximity to the busy railway line just next to the hospital forced the construction of a huge noise protection wall over the complete length of the property in the early 1990s.
Today the hospital has 132 beds. The main fields are general internal medicine with all important sub-disciplines, surgery, orthopedy and otorhinolaryngology, gynecology, obstetrics and anesthesiology.
