Na
Šumave se nachází osm ledovcových jezer. Na ceské strane
pohorí jsou to Cerné jezero, Certovo jezero, Plešné jezero,
Prášilské jezero a jezero Laka. V Bavorsku se nachází Malé
Javorské jezero, Velké Javorské jezero a Roklanské jezero.

Všechna
šumavská jezera vdecí za svuj vznik poslední dobe ledové.
Tehdy (cca pred 10 000 lety) modelovalo svahy pohorí jedenáct
ledovcu, které po sobe zanechaly ledovcové kotle morény – hráze
budoucích jezer.

Jezer
bylo puvodne deset, dve už však potkal prirozený zánik.

Prumyslové
exhalace ve dvacátém století mely za následek zvýšení
kyselosti vody ve všech jezerech, což u nich vedlo k vyhynutí
ryb. V soucasnosti se pH vody pomalu zvyšuje.

Vodní plocha má 7.5 hektaru a její obvod ciní 1242 metru.

Nejvetší hloubka jezera je 18.3 metru.

Celkový objem vody v jezere ciní 617 000 metru krychlových.

Jezero leží ve výšce 1090 m ve svazích hory Plechý. Ta je se svými 1 378 m nejvyšším vrcholem na ceské strane Šumavy.

Nad jezerem se vypíná skalní stena vysoká 260 metru. Byla vymodelována svahovým ledovcem, který dosahoval šírky pres jeden kilonetr. Šlo tak o nejširší ledovec na Šumave.

Povodí jezera má rozlohu 67 ha.

Zajímavostí jezera je pravidelné kolísání hladiny, k nemuž dochází za silného vetru (hladina osciluje témer o 20 centimetru).

Nad jezerem se tycí kamenný obelisk – památník spisovatele Adalberta
Stiftera.

S jezerem se pojí rada lidových povestí. Nejcasteji v nich vystupují vodní divoženky.

Voda z jezera byla v minulosti využívána k plavení dreva na Schwarzenberském kanálu.

Ve dvacátém století stála u jezera turistická chata, v casech studené války využívaná jako sídlo pohranicní stráže. Dnes už po ní nic nezustalo.

Glacial lakes of the Sumava |

Eight
kettle lakes are located in the Šumava mountain
range. On the Czech side of the mountain range we can found Cerné
lake, Certovo lake, Plešné lake, Prášilské lake and Laka lake. In Bavaria there is
Kleiner Arbersee Lake, Grosser Arbersee Lake and Rachelsee lake.

All of these
tarns originated from the last ice
age. At that time (about 10 000 years ago) the eleven glaciers modeled slopes of the Šumava. These glaciers created kettle holes and
moraines.

Initially the ten lakes were in Šumava but two of them have ceased to
exist.

In the twentieth century industrial exhalations resulted in the acidification of water in
lakes. For this reason fish in the lakes became exctinct. At present, the water pH is slowly
increased.

Area of this lake is 7.5 hectares and perimeter is 1242
meters.

Maximal depth of this lake is 18.3
meters.

Total volume of watter is 617 000 cubic
meters.

Plešné lake lies in slope of the mountain “Plechý” (1 378 m – the highest summit of the Bohemian part of Šumava
mountains) at altitude of 1090 m.

Giantic rocky cliff is toewring above the lake. This
kettle cliff has height about 260 metres and was modeled by glacier that reached the width of one kilometer. It was the largest glacier in the Šumava.

Catchment area of the lake is 67 hectares.

Above
the tarn is a monumental stone obelisk – the monument of writer Adalbert
Stifter.

Another
curiosity of Plešné lake is a regular fluctuation of water level which
occurs in strong wind (water level oscillates almost 20 centimeters).

The
lake is connected with many folk tales about the water nymphs.
-
Water from the lake was used for floating wood in the Schwarzenberg
canal.
-
In the twentieth century a tourist lodge was built near the lake. In times of Cold
War this building was used as the seat of the soldiers. Today the house does not exist.
