The National Waterfront Museum at Swansea tells the story of industry and innovation in Wales, now and over the last 300 years.
There are only two cars in this industrial Museum.
This one & an Electric car made in Wales.
The text on the Plaque for the Benz 'Duc' motor Car, reads :-
Carl Benze was one of the pioneers of the internal combustion engine, & by 1890 his company was producing basic four-seater cars powered by a 7hp single cylinder engine. This particular model, a Benz 'Duc' was first registered in Monmouthshire (historic County, now Gwent.)
in 1904, and was owned by a Dr Cropper from Chepstow, though it is uncertain whether he was the car's first owner.
He cannot have been an enthusiastic owner, however, as he gave the to the Science Museum in 1910(!), and in 1911 it was taken into the care of the infant National Museum of Wales. Fully restored in 1978, it has since participated in the London - Brighton rally on a number of occasions.
