Carved out by the Colorado river, the Grand Canyon (nearly 5,000 ft deep) is the most spectacular gorge in the world. Located in the state of Arizona, it cuts across the Grand Canyon National Park. Its horizontal strata retrace the geological history of the past 2 billion years. There are also prehistoric traces of human adaptation to a particularly harsh environment.

"In the grand Canyon, Arizona has a natural wonder which so far as I know, is in kind absolutely unparalleled throughout the rest of the world…Leave it as it is. You can not improve on it. The ages have been at work on it, and man can only mar it. What you can do is to keep it for your children, your children’s children, and for all who come after you." – Theodore Roosevelt

We are surprised nobody has logged this one yet. So, here it is, including a couple of pictures from our last visit. It is a great place to visit at any time of the year, we especially like it on a clear winter day.
