«This building, constructed between 1908 and 1909, was opened as a Café on 4th April 1909. It's eclectic architecture, especially visible in the decorative language of the façade, makes it one of the best examples of the architectural heritage of the Estremoz council area.
It is noticeably influenced by Art Nouveau (a western artistic movement which began at the end of the 1880s and came was present in Portugal from 1905), particularly with reference to the exterior of the first and second floors, in the red tiles, the floral borders decorated with fleur-de-lis or the deliberate differences in the seven window spaces.
It is a rare survivor of the old Portuguese café assembly establishments of the beginning of the 20th century and has become an important sociological reference in the collective memory of those who pass by here or make use of its hospitality.»
