Tricentris, centre de tri a pour mission d’améliorer les problèmes de gestion des matières recyclables, tout en stimulant l'activité économique régionale et c’est une recette qui marche! Afin de répondre aux besoins et à la demande des municipalités, Tricentris gère à ce jour trois centres de tri à Lachute, Terrebonne et Chelsea, regroupant plus de 230 employés. Ces établissements accueillent les résidus domestiques d’environ 1,5 millions d’habitants. En 2010, plus de 150 000 tm de matières recyclables sont passés par nos centres de tri, soit environ un quart du volume municipal au Québec.
Innovation, audace, performance, qualité de travail et respect de l’environnement voilà ce qui fait la force et la réussite de Tricentris. Nos centres de tri offrent un service à coût stable et optimal et occasionnent également des retombées économiques intéressantes. En effet, en plus de créer des emplois directs, nos centres de tri encouragent les secteurs connexes d'emploi dans les régions. Ainsi, tout en réglant leurs problèmes de gestion des matières résiduelles, les municipalités ont réussi à conserver et à encourager l'activité économique régionale.
Tricentris contribue donc à la fois aux aspects environnementaux, sociaux et économiques de l'évolution régionale. À une époque où l'on parle beaucoup de développement durable et où l'on en trouve encore peu d'exemples, il importe de le souligner.
Tricentris d’hier à aujourd’hui
C'est au début des années 1990 que tout commença. L’idée d’un centre de tri germe dans l’esprit de deux organismes de la région de Lachute : la Régie intermunicipale Argenteuil Deux-Montagnes (RIADM), qui gérait déjà la collecte et l'enfouissement des déchets et souhaitait s’impliquer dans le recyclage, et la Commission scolaire du Long-Sault, qui désirait démarrer un centre de formation en entreprises et récupération (CFER).
De ces efforts naît, en 1996, la Corporation Régionale du Centre de tri - CFER, qui réunit à l'époque 44 municipalités en plus de la commission scolaire du Long-Sault et de la RIADM. Sa première réalisation est la construction, durant l'hiver 1997-1998, d’un centre de tri. La nouvelle usine construite à Lachute commence à recevoir et à traiter les matières recyclables dès juin 1998.
En avril 2004, la Corporation fait peau neuve et se voit rebaptisée « Tricentris, centre de tri », afin de mieux refléter les orientations du regroupement de municipalités. Dès lors, les projets vont se succéder. Tout d’abord la construction d’une nouvelle usine à Terrebonne en 2007. Ce bâtiment conçu avec une haute qualité environnementale a obtenu la certification LEED Or. Puis, au courant de 2008, Tricentris s’agrandit encore avec l’acquisition d’un centre de tri à Chelsea, d’un siège social sur le site de Lachute et le lancement d’un agrandissement du centre de tri de Lachute.
Malgré cette réussite, un évènement vient freiner l’expansion de Tricentris fin 2008. En effet, c’est à cette période que la crise financière et la récession mondiale touchent fortement le marché des matières recyclables. En quelques semaines, le prix des matières est divisé par quatre, atteignant des niveaux extrêmement bas. Ces conditions exceptionnelles affectent le secteur du tri. Si Tricentris n’échappe pas à la crise, les particularités et le mode de fonctionnement de notre organisme nous ont permis de continuer cette belle aventure et d’en ressortir grandit.
Aujourd'hui, après une évolution fulgurante, nos centres de tri se classent parmi les plus importants au Québec en ce qui concerne le volume de résidus d’origine municipale traité.

Tricentris Then and Now
In the early 1990s that it all began. Today, after a rapid development, our sorting centers are among the largest in Quebec regarding the amount of residues from municipal Treaty.
