In Norwood, uphill from downtown Norwood, is the F. Holland Day House, which is the headquarters for the Norwood Historical Society.

The Norwood Historical Society web site states that the Norwood Historical Society "is the repository of information about Norwood's history...Founded in 1907, the goals and objectives of the Norwood Historical Society are:

- Maintaining the F. Holland Day Historic House Museum;
- Collecting and preserving objects, artifacts, documents, photographs and memorabilia which relate to Norwood's history;
- Conducting educational programs, special events and outreach;
- Encouraging and promoting historical research and publications; and,
- Serving as a resource for the preservation of local history."

The society is an all-volunteer organization.

The web site has events and hours that they are open. In general, the house is open on Sundays in the summer and in December.

Norwood is a suburb of Boston, located about 12 miles southwest. It was originally a part of the Dedham Plantation, which was formed in 1636. The current town of Dedham is the seat or 'shire' for Norfolk County. Norwood was first settled in the 1640s by Ezra Morse, who established a sawmill. In 1878, the town of Norwood officially formed from Dedham. At least two carriage roads went through Norwood, then later a railroad line was built and road highways followed. Industry in the town has included mills, tanneries, furniture manufacturers, printing companies, and high tech companies.

The F. Holland Day House was originally the family home of Frederick Holland Day. Day was a well known "photographer, publisher, historian and philanthropist." The house was built in 1859 for the Day family who were in the tannery business. F. Holland Day was the only child and lived in the house until his death in 1933.

The house was originally a Second Empire architecture style. F. Holland Day renovated the house in the 1890s, incorporating the Victorian Arts and Crafts style. The house has eight fireplaces, each of a different design. The most outstanding feature of the house is the great hall, where there is a multistory space where hallways and rooms in the second and third stories have windows and open areas overlooking the bottom floor. Tapestries and paintings are all over.
