Rytterkorpset is the mounted police at the special section of the Oslo Police. Rytterkorpset duties include patrolling, service by unrest and riots, and accompaniment in parades and rallies, for example, on May 17.

The unit has 14-18 horses that are found in the old stables officer at Akershus Fortress. The horses that are selected are mainly Swedish and Danish warmblood horses. It is tradition to give the horses name from Norse mythology.

This Police Horse statue is made of Bronze, a work of Kirsten Kokkin, that stands at the Akershus Fortress and was unveiled on 2 September, 2009.

In Norse mythology, Tor (in English, Thor) is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, the protection of mankind, and also hallowing, healing, and fertility.
