Established in 1816 Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens are the oldest scientific institution in the country. The gardens occupy an area of 30 hectares and are situated in the heart of the city of Sydney. Other features located within or near the gardens are Government House, Sydney Opera House and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
