St. Josef Churchyard Cemetery - Termen, VS, Switzerland - Churchyard Cemeteries on Waymarking.com

The church St. Josef of Termen was built 1911 to 1913. The town had some other chapels before, and still has, but not at this location. The cemetery was probably installed around the same time. I could not find any history and did not see any graves from before 1928, substantial parts of the graveyard were covered under snow when I was there.

The churchyard is located west of the church and is only visible when walk around the church. From all other directions it is hidden by walls or buildings.

The churchyard is square and has a chapel at the corner opposite the church that must be much newer than the other structures around. It has about 100 graves; maybe some more, there could have been lying headstones under the snow.

Many of the graves have portrait photographs attached, and there are a lot of wooden crosses, usually with something like a roof. This is something you hardly ever see in other parts of German speaking Switzerland.
