Back in the 1920s, John Sinclair, the manufacturer of ‘Rubicon’ Twist had got an answer to hunger. To quote from a local 1920 press advert:
“For that unexpected quarter shift-when there’s nothing left in the dinner basket - try a pipe of ‘Rubicon’ Twist.” The advert claimed that it was “a smoke that is almost a meal!”
It went on “It’s the best substitute for a square meal that a workman can have. You don’t eat the smoke of ‘Rubicon,’ but it seems as though you can.”
