Die Gordon Bennett Trophy des Jahres 1904, als Teil der Grand-Prix-Saison 1904, fand in Deutschland am 17. Juni auf einem Kurs über 550 km (342 Meilen), bestehend aus vier Runden, in der Nähe von Homburg v.d.H statt. In Anwesenheit des deutschen Kaisers Wilhelm II traten 18 Autos aus sieben Ländern zum Rennen an.
Offizielle waren Baron von Molitor vom Deutschen Automobil-Club, der offiziellen Starter, und M. Tampier vom Französischen Automobil-Club, der der Zeitnehmer war.
Von der Saalburg ginge es nach Norden nach Usingen, wo es einen Kontrollpunkt gab, dann durch Grävenwiesbach nach Weilburg, wo es einen zweiten Kontrollpunkt gab, dann vorbei an Allendorf und Obertiefenbach nach Limburg. Über diesen Abschnitt wurde berichtet, daß er der beste Teil des Kurses für hohe Geschwindigkeiten war, einige Autos erreichten 150 km/h (93 mph). In Limburg gab es einen weiteren Kontrollpunkt, dann ging es durch Kirberg nach Neuhof und dann nach Idstein. Der Kurs verlief dann über Glashütten nach Königstein (Kontrolle), dann über Friedrichshof und Oberursel (Kontrolle) nach Homburg v.d.H (Kontrolle) und zurück zur Saalburg.
Sieger wurde Léon Théry aus Frankreich auf Richard-Brasier, der die vier Runden in 5 Stunden 50 Minuten und 2 Sekunden, mit einer Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 94,34 km/h (58,62 mph) durchfuhr. Camille Jenatzy aus Belgien auf Mercedes wurde Zweiter, der Franzose Henry Rougier auf Turcat-Méry Dritter.
The 1904 Gordon Bennett Trophy as a part of the Grand-Prix-Saison 1904 took place in Germany on June 17th over 550 km (342 miles), consisting of four laps of a course in the neighbourhood of Homburg v.d.H. In the presence of the German emperor Wilhelm II 18 cars from seven countries joined the race.
Officiating were Baron von Molitor of the German Automobile Club, who official starter, and M. Tampier of the French Automobile Club, who was timekeeper.
From Saalburg the course ran north to Usingen, where there was a control point then through Grävenwiesbach to Weilburg, where there was a second control point, then past Allendorf and Obertiefenbach to Limburg. This section was reported to be the best part of the course for high speed and in practice some cars travelled at 150 km/h (93 mph). At Limburg there was another control, then the course ran through Kirberg to Neuhof and then to Idstein. It then ran through Glashütten to Königstein (control), then via Friedrichshof and Oberursel (control) to Homburg v.d.H (control) and back to the Saalburg.
Winner was Léon Théry of France on Richard-Brasier, who accomplished the four laps in 5hr 50min 2sec, an average speed of 94.34 km/h (58.62 mph). Camille Jenatzy of Belgium was second, driving a Mercedes, Henry Rougier of France driving a Turcat-Méry was thrid.
