The hut under Velky Choc mountain was built by Czechoslovak Hiking Club of Dolny Kubin town in 1924. The hikers used a help of Czechoslovak Army: the 1st mountain regiment in Dolny Kubin and the 203th brigade in Ruzomberok. The hut was opened on September 28th, 1924. It was called Hviezdoslavova Utulna in memory of the local native and well known Slovak poet Pavol Hiviezdoslav, and it was used until 1944, when German troops burned it down during the Slovak Uprising.

Currently there is a pole at the trailside with four signs in Slovak:

The bottom one reads:

Tu stala chata Hviezdoslavova utulna * Chatu postavili vojaci 1. horskeho pluku v Dolnom Kubine v roku 1924 za spoluprace 203. brigady v Ruzomberku. Chata vyhorela v decembri 1944 pocas SNP.

(Here stood the Hviezdoslavova utulna hut * The hut was built by soldiers of the 1st mountain regiment of Dolny Kubin in 1924 together with the 203rd brigade of Ruzomberok. The hut was burned down in December 1944 during the Slovak National Uprising).

above it there is a small sign with two photos of the hut:

Pamatna tabula bola na tomto mieste osadena 9.7.2000 preto, aby aj turistom v novom mileniu pripomenula, ze tu po 20 rokov sluzila verejnosti chata s nazvom Hviezdoslavova utulna (1924-1924).

(the Memorial Plaque was set at this place on July 7th, 2000, to remind hikers in the new millennium that a hut called Hviezdoslavova utulna served here to the public for 20 years (1924-1944) ).

another sign above it:

Dna 28.4.1924 bola v tychto priestoroch otvorena Hviezdoslavova utulna na Choci. Utulnu, za vydatnej pomoci 3. horskeho praporu v Dolnom Kubine, vystavil r. 1924 Odbor ceskoslovenskych turistov Dolny Kubin. Hviezdoslavovu utulnu vypalili nemecke vojska v decembri 1944.

On September 28th, 1924 was at this place opened Hviezdoslavova utulna na Choci. The hut was built in 1924 by Czechoslovak hikers association in Dolny Kubin, with a great help of the 3rd mountain battalion of Dolny Kubin. Hviezdoslavova utulna was burned down by German troops in December 1944.

and another sign at the top:

O vybudovanie tejto spomienky na byvalu Hviezdoslavovu utulnu sa zasluzil nadseny obdivovatel slovenskej prirody a hor Jozef Zakovsky z Likavy (1921-2008) ktory utulnu aj niekolkokrat navstivil. Cest jeho pamatke. Horam zdar.

(A merit for building this memorial of former Hviezdoslavova utulna goes to the eager admirer of Slovak nature and mountains, Josef Zakovsky from Likava (1921-2008), who visited the hut several times. Let his memory be honored. Long live the mountains.)
