Pinehurst Golf Club has the honored "Park Place" spot on the Monopoly board. Along with the Pebble Beach course, Pinehurst holds the top valued spot among the properties.

Located in the Sandhills of south-central North Carolina, Pinehurst has been a mecca for golfers since its establishment in 1895. James W. Tufts, an apothecary from Boston, sold his American Soda Fountain Co. business and came to this area to establish a health resort. He bought over 5500 acres of land, and developed this beautiful area of Pinehurst, which is a National Historic Landmark.

There are eight courses at Pinehurst, with the No. 2 course being one of the most noted in the country. It is here that Payne Stewart, in 1999, won the coveted U.S. Open with his game-winning putt, the longest winning putt in U.S. Open history. A sculpture of Stewart, in a classic winning pose, can be seen on the Club's Walk of Fame alongside the 18th green.

In 1901, Tufts initiated the oldest of American tournaments, the North and South Amateur. Golf course designer, Donald Ross (1872-1948) designed four of the Pinehurst courses, including the No. 2 course, and became its Golf Professional in 1900. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1977. A sculpture of Ross can be seen on the Walk of Fame next to the clubhouse.

The Pinehurst Club is a beautiful area - lush and green, with an exquisite clubhouse complete with restaurants and pro shops with its full-length Southern veranda where you can sit in a wooden rocker and look out over the greens.

Pinehurst is a crown jewel - one of America's treasured courses in this Golf Capital of the World. It is one of 43 courses within a 15-mile radius in Moore County, North Carolina.
