The Ponte Ferroviária de Portimão (Portimão Railway Bridge), also known as Ponte Ferroviária doArade (Arade Railway Bridge), is a rail infrastructure of the Algarve Line on the Arade River, near Portimão, Faro, Portugal.
This structure consists of eight spans with iron parabolic beams, supported by stone pillars. The length of the bridge is approximately 330 meters.
History
On July 1, 1889 the Faro Train Station is inaugurated, connecting this city to Beja trough the South Line.
On February 15, 1903, the railway station of Vila Nova de Portimão was inaugurated on the east bank of the river, completing the Portimão Extension.
Some years later, works return to that extension with the aim of building a new interface for Portimão and extending the railway to Lagos, this bridge was then built in 1915, and open the service, along with the section between station of Ferragudo-Parchal and Lagos, on 30 July 1922. The former Portimão Station was called Ferragudo-Parchal and the extension renamed to Ramal de Lagos (lagos extension).
