This beautiful live oak stands in front of the Monterey California city offices. An old marker at it's base reads...
This tree was planted by the Red Cross May 30, 1919 in the memory of Monterey Sons who made the Supreme Sacrifice in the World War. Replanted July 1936
The tree is a variety of California Live Oak, a type of oak that does not drop it's leaves in the winter. It's in excellent health and is a lovely memorial.
