The Netherlands is located in North-West Europe (with several islands in the Caribbean). Mainland Netherlands borders the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east, and shares maritime borders with Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom. It is a parliamentary democracy organised as a unitary state. The country capital is Amsterdam and the seat of government is The Hague. The Netherlands in its entirety is often referred to as Holland, although North and South Holland are actually only two of its twelve provinces .
The Consulate is used for the official representatives of the government of one state in the territory of another, normally acting to assist and protect the his citizens, and to facilitate trade and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
The Consulate of the Netherlands represents the Netherland citizens in the South of Portugal, specially in Algarve where there´s a large number of retired citizens living.
