Mondeguinho is the spring where the MOndego river starts. Mondego is the most important of all the rivers that have it´s origins in Portugal.

Mondego is a Portuguese river. The most important of all the ones that have it´s origins in Portugal.
The Mondego river has a lenght of 234 kms. Its source is in the Serra da Estrela regiom, in the municipality of Gouveia in a place called Corgo das Mós or ’Mondeguinho’ (Little Mondego), at an altitude of 1425 meters.
It´s initial course is across the Serra da Estrela from southwest to northeast in the direction of Guarda. Near the village of Vila Cortês do Mondego it reaches an altitude of 450 meters. At that pint it turns to Northwest and then, near Celorico da Beira, to southwest. Here starts it´s medium course across the Beirão Plateau.
After crossing Fornos de Algodres, Mondego acts as a natural border between the districts of Viseu, Guarda and Coimbra.
Between Penacova and Coimbra, the river runs trough a narrow valley known for it´s conditions for kayake and canoe practice.
Near Coimbra, the river starts it´s lower course. The last 45kms untill it reaches the Atlantic in Figueira da Foz running at an altitude of only 40 meters above sea level.
This point is located on the side of the road and there are parking spaces on the side of the river source.
