A Oliveira (The Olive Tree) is a work from the Portuguese artist SAM (Samuel Torres de Carvalho 1942-1993) in 1990.
Sam is best known for is work as cartoonist but he achieved an amazing result with its work "A Oliveira".
The purpose was to draw a plant with total simplicity. Like cutting the tree from a folded sheet of paper and then glue it together. The the light effects act in vibrant light/dark that offer a dynamic three-dimensional rotation born from its two dimensions, let the wind and rain act to sprinkle it with oxidation, the natural deterioration of the being that is the iron olive tree, and let the landscape act, allowing the trees around revive the empty sheet and to relate themselves with this new tree, its metal sister .
Curiosly, the two elements of the work when seen from above describes a surprising "LX", one of the Simbols of Lisbon.
Text from Lisbon patrimony.
