The city of Luján, about forty miles from Buenos Aires, houses the visually and spiritually stunning Basilica de Lujan.

This neo-gothic Basilica was built by the French architect Uldéric Courtois in 1889 and completed in 1937.

The Basilica's elaborate facade is one of Argentina's most recognizable images, with its majestic towers reaching heights of 350 feet. The interior is clearly influenced by the French Gothic architecture, which incorporates beautiful stained glass windows.

Every October, hundreds of thousands of people make the pilgrimage towards the basilica from Buenos Aires as a sign of faith and devotion to the Virgin Mary.

The construction of this beautiful church took on nearly fifty years.
