Florbela Espanca was born in December 8, 1894. Her first known poem was writen at the age of nine.

She was a precursor of the feminist movement in Portugal. Although the success of her books, she suffered from a mental illness. She tried to kill herself at least twice.

The vast majority of her poems are about love. She was one of the most important portuguese female writers of all times. Her most known book is "Charneca em Flor" (Heath in Bloom).

She died with a pulmonary edema, in December 8, 1930, exactly 36 years after her birth.
