Despite its name, this cemetery is the oldest and the most important in Belgrade, being recommended for a visit in most of the city guidebooks. It was built in 1886.

The New Cemetery, or, in Serbian, "novo groblje", is a huge cemetery, at least considering the scale of Belgrade, a city with about 1.600.000 inhabitants. There is no available information regarding the number of graves, but I estimate them in about 10.000. But then I might be terribly wrong.

Attached to the main cemetery there are are several areas with "veteran cemeteries" from different wars (French, Italian, Russian, Bulgarian and Austro-Hungarian military cemeteries from the WW1 and the English Military Cemetery from WW2). By the main entrance there is a board with a map of the whole cemetery.

It's not hard to get here walking from the city center. I would say 30 minutes walking will be enough.
