The Liberty Ship Memorial honors the people who built the World War II Liberty ships at the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in South Portland, Maine.
The memorial is centered around a thirty-five foot tall sculpture which is a replica of the bow section of a Liberty ship. Woodworth Associates Graphic Design and Communications Company researched and designed the sculpture. The architect for the project was the firm of Richard Renner Architects. Beneath the sculpture are six interpretive panels, a list of donors and a complete list of the 266 Liberty ships constructed at the site. The memorial was dedicated in a public ceremony in November 2001.
