This large globe stands approximatly 10ft tall, and has a small spiral staircase that lets you climb to the top of the earth. Using your hands, you can start the globe rotating around its axis but it will take some effort to get the earth to rotate 360 degrees as it is heavy.
The continents are shown in relief and welcome children young and old to explore the world and learn about its geography.
Scientific Principle(s) being demonstrated: Children young and old can see how the earth rotates on its axis and learn about the position of the continents as well as see how the land masses have mountainous regions or desert areas.
Water and land masses are shown not just in relief but in colour to show the oceans, rivers and streams, as well as lowland areas and mountains on the various continents.
Briefly explain if the experiment was effective for you. Could it have been better?: The globe is heavy enough to prevent the rotation from going too fast, but light enough for an average person to move the globe with their hands from ground level or at the top. A child may require the assistance of an adult.
Since there are different levels to view the earth, all areas are accessible from either ground level or by using the spiral stairs, making this an effective learning aid.
When is the apparatus/experiment available to the public: The globe is available year round, 24/7/365
