the brewery Ziegelhof was founded in 1850 on the area of an abandoned brickyard; this is also the reason for the name, it means "brickyard".

The founder, Karl Wilhelm Gysin, died in 1859 and his not very successful widow had to sell the company four years later. The brewery was acquired by Theophil Meyer Zeller. He could make the company very profitable. It was managed by members of this family until 1999.

In 2006 the real estate department was made an independent company and the brewery departmant was bought by Eichhof, a Luzern based brewery. Eichhof was bought by the Dutch Heineken group in 2008.

The brewery is still located where it was founded at the northern border of the historic center of Liestal, but the buildings seem to be younger. They probably were reconstructed in the early 20th century.
