Cerny Vul is now part of Statenice village. Since medieval times here was a pub called "U Cerneho vola" - "At the Black Ox". There is a year 1480 at the pub sign but this date is not documented anywhere. The painting at the pub front wall is rather new - 1996.
According to a legend, this was a stop on the route of the cattle herders who were driving the oxen, paid as a tribute to King Henry the Fowler by Duke Wenceslas. As the herders knew that the cattle will not be recounted by the Saxons, they slaughtered one ox here and ate it - and since then the place has been called "Cerny Vul".
