O edifício ocupa o lugar onde esteve situado o Convento de São Domingos,fundado no século XIII. Após ter passado por algumas transformações, mas sempre como local central na cidade, o conjunto do edifício conventual ardeu em 1832, durante o Cerco do Porto. Com o incendio e abertura de novos arruamentos pouco restou. Em 1836, foi reconstruído para receber a Casa Filial do Banco de Lisboa, hoje Banco de Portugal. Em 1934, a Companhia de Seguros Douro adquiriu e sediou-se neste edifício, que viria a ocupar durante décadas. Atualmente transformado no Palácio das Artes - Fábrica de Talentos.

The building occupies the place where was situated the Convent of Santo Domingo, founded in the thirteenth century. The whole conventual building burned in 1832 during the Siege of Oporto. With the fire, and the opening of new roads little remains. In 1836, was rebuilt to house the Branch of the Bank of Lisbon, Bank of Portugal today. In 1934, the Insurance Company of Douro has acquired it and was housed in this building for decades. Now transformed into the Palace of Arts - Talent Factory.
