D'origine modeste, le riche commercant Jean-Joseph Trestler entrevoyait pour ses filles des alliances dans la grande société. Sa fille Catherine (1792-1868) tombe amoureuse d'un commis du magasin général de son père et décide de l'épouser malgré la désapprobation de celui-ci qui la déshérite et la chasse de sa maison. Elle épouse donc en 1809 le commis Joseph Éléazar Hays et poursuit son père en justice pour le droit à l'héritage de sa mère décédée en 1793. Elle gagnera sa cause après trois ans de poursuites et obtiendra 20,000$, somme énorme pour l'époque.

Les premières manifestations du fantôme de Catherine à la maison Trestler seraient apparues dès 1920. Plusieurs témoins affirment avoir entendu des pas, des bruits suspects, des airs de piano; un autre a ressenti un contact physique et certains ont vu une silhouette.

Built in 1798, the Maison Trestler in Vaudreuil-Dorion is reportedly haunted by the ghost of Catherine the youngest daughter of Jean-Joseph Trestler.
Of modest origin, the rich merchant Jean-Joseph Trestler dreamed for his daughters to marry into high society. His daughter Catherine (1792-1868) falls in love with a clerk of her father's general store and decides to marry him, despite his disapproval. Her father disinherits her and chases her from his house. In 1809, she marries the clerk Joseph Éléazar Hays and prosecutes her father for the right to the inheritance of her mother who died in 1793. She will win her case after three years of pursuits and will obtain $20,000, a huge sum of money for the time.

The first appearances of the ghost of Catherine at the Maison Trestler started around 1920. Several witnesses assert having heard steps, suspicious noises, piano tunes; another one felt a physical contact and some people saw a silhouette.
