Am 1. April 1948 wurde der Tsavo National Park mit einer Gesamtfläche von 21.812 km² eingerichtet. Im Mai 1949 erfolgte aus administrativen Gründen die Teilung in Tsavo-East- und Tsavo-West-Nationalpark.[2] Vor Ausweisung der Nationalparks war das Gebiet beider Parks im Besitz der Volksgruppen der Orma, Watta, Massai und Kamba, die ihre Siedlungen jeweils aufgegeben mussten.
Mit einer Fläche von 11.747 Quadratkilometern ist der östliche Teil etwa 2.000 km² größer als der westliche. Die Bereiche nördlich des dauerhaft wasserführenden Galana River, etwa zwei Drittel des Parks, sind für Besucher nicht zugänglich.

On 1 April 1948 established the Tsavo National Park with a total area of ??21,812 km ². In May 1949, was for administrative reasons, divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Park. [2] Prior to designation of national parks, the area of both parks owned by the folk groups of the Orma, Watta, Maasai and Kamba, their settlements in each had given up.
With an area of ??11 747 square kilometers of the eastern part of about 2,000 sq km is larger than the western. The areas north of the Galana River permanently water-bearing, about two-thirds of the park are not accessible to visitors.
