Lomec is a charming pilgrims place of the' Holy Virgin on the way from Vodnany via Chelcice to Netolice. The name of the place was derived from the near by quarry. Every year it is visited by many pilgrims and tourists. People who look refreshing of their bodies.
In the middle of the dome there is the central altar, which is a miniature copy of Bernini's St.Peter's high altar in Rome. The altar was carved by the wood - carver Wauscher from Linz. There is a tabernacle above it suspended on four huge twisted columns entwined by vine shoots and flying angels. In the lantern in the lower part of the tabernacle there is a sanctuary of the Holy Sacrament. In a glazed casket above it there is a statuette of the Virgin Mary.
This quite small statue (about 20 cm high, carved from an wood) is the centre of the pilgrims' life in Lomec. The statue presents the Heavenly Queen holding the Child Jesus on her left arm and a sceptre in her right hand. The statue is a faithful copy of the Virgin Mary of Foyen.
Lomec was a property of the Buquay family from Belgium. In 1684 the count Karel, an admirer of the Virgin Mary, was sailing from Rome to Spain. On the way the ship got into strong storm and the count promised to God and his Mother to build a chapel ora churh on his Czech estates in case he would be saved. The tempest calmed down, the count was saved. The promise was fulfilled by count's son Filip Emanuel Buquoy who designed plans of the holy of holies and himself governed the construction. The construction started in 1695 and finished 1702
