A plaque by the Arches reads:
"These two arches are from the former United States National Bank Building that once stood at the corner of 12th and Farnam Streets. The Bank, constructed in 1887, was a fine example of late Richardsonian Romanesque architecture and the stone in the arch is Ohio bluestone, a type of limestone. These arches were reconstructed at this site in 1979 and serve as the visual link between the Old Market and the Central Park Mall."
