The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union would have a hay-day with this one. Located near Temperance State Park on the shores of Lake Superior, this sign boasts an oxymoron that catches the eye of a passing motorist. The WCTU was organized in 1874 to promote prohibition and wipe out liquor sales that they felt were causing so many social evils. We saw no one picketing this liquor store on this trip north, and it seemed to be “business as usual.”
