Ballantrae bridge is a three arch stone bridge which was bypassed in 1964 by the modern concrete structure carrying all the traffic on A77 main road.

This old bridge was built in 1770 from the stones of the ruined Ardstinchar Castle, which is just above the bridge on the hillside. See picture of bridge, the pillar on hillside is some of the remains of the castle. Sir John Hamilton bought the Bargany and Ardstinchar lands in 1650. Letters about the bridges construction are in the
records office. A toll house on North bank collected monies. see nearby Waymarks
Barriers at either side stop all but the most determined pedestrians from using the bridge. See Pix
