Cineteatro Louletano was inaugurated in 1930 and it's still active although these days only opens in special occasions and for specific festivals.

For 75 years the theater was owned by the cultural society "Sociedade Teatral Louletana" which was formed in 1925 precisely with the mission of building a theater suitable for all sorts of arts. Amongst its founders one can find famous names of the local cultural life: Alberto Rodrigues Formosinho, António Maria Frutuoso da Silva, Artur Gomes Pablos, David Evaristo d'Aragão Teixeira, Dr. Joaquim Cândido Pereira de Magalhães e Silva, José da Costa Ascenção,José da Costa Guerreiro, José Martins Júnior e Manuel dos Santos Pinheiro Júnior. All together these men invested something like 900 Eur (180 contos, by then).
The theater was officially inaugurated on the 19th April 1939, but on the 15th and on the 23rd March it was tested with the projection of movies.
In the opening evening there was a performance by Companhia Teatral, managed by the actress Ilda Stichini, which included Clemente Pinto, Luz Veloso, Luís Prieto, Joaquim Oliveira, Alves da Costa, Maria Lagoa, Fernanda de Sousa and some more artists. The name of the play on the first day was was “Se eu quisesse”; second day, “Os Filhos” and finally, third day, “O Tambor e o Guiso”.
For decades some of the most important names of the Portuguese arts had performances here: Alves da Cunha, Berta de Bívar, Chaby Pinheiro, Maria do Céu Guerra, Raul Solnado, etc.
Regarding movies, all of the most famous world productions were projected in Cineteatro Louletano for more than 80 years.
In 2003 the City bought the property, saving this historical building which for a while was marked for demolition.
