Mas o declínio da actividade levou a um progressivo abandono ou transformação das salinas.

Assim, numa tentativa de conservar o património a C.M. Figueira da Foz adquiriu em 2000 a salina do Corredor da Cobra, onde instalou um pequeno museu do sal.

Aqui formam-se actualmente novos marnotos (salineiros) para que a actividade da produção de sal reiniciada em 2001 tenha continuidade. Esta salina artesanal pretende fazer face às grandes unidade de produção industrial de sal, diferenciando o seu sal como produto 100% natural e de origem biológica.

Todos os anos, de Junho a Setembro se faz a safra do sal nesta salina. Chegam a retirar-se 50 toneladas de sal que são depois vendidas a € 0,12/kg. Durante o resto do ano a salina está em manutenção e limpeza e preparação para o ano seguinte. É também durante este período que se aproveita para fazer a venda do sal armazenado.

Durante o período da safra os viveiros vão sendo cheios de água do estuário do Mondego. Aí, uma parte da água evapora por acção do calor e vento, concentrando o sal. Quando atinge uma determinada concentração a água passa para talhões progressivamente mais pequenos: vasas, depois cabeceiras e finalmente talhos.

De três em três dias os marnotos recolhem o sal cristalizado e enchem os viveiros com água nova do estuário do Mondego.
