Phsar Kandal (Kandal Market) is one of the older markets in Phnom Penh, situated one street back from the Mekong River. It could be described as a 'local market', noisy, bustling, selling food and necessities of all sorts, in a cosmopolitan and free-market atmosphere.
On the western side of the market is a market building. Over the building entrance is the name of the market in Kymer, and a year, 1990. As the market existed long before this, I can only assume that this building was one of the first of the new ware of city construction after the UN peace deal c. 1990.
