In Springfield, within the Springfield Technical Community College Technology Center, is an electric car charging station at a remote part of the parking lot.
The charging station is a single spot, near a corner of the lot that is by a turnstile in the iron fence at the corner of Federal and State Streets. This one of several stations placed around the parking lot.
According to an article on wwlp.com, the stations were installed probably around the last week in April 2011. Another article stated that Western Massachusetts Electric, a subsidiary of Northeast Utilities, is sponsoring the stations at the college. The article implied that these stations were free to use - the utilities stipulated that the participating communities were in charge of maintaining the facilities and that the utilities were gathering research about their use.
The Springfield Technical Community College Technology Center is a small innovation development park. In addition to the charging stations, there is a set of solar panels off one wall (along State Street) that is used to teach students about solar technology.
