Originally built in 1690 as a two storey, three bay, courthouse for settling disputes during the heyday of lead mining in the area, it was added to in the C18th and subsequently altered during the C19th and C20th. Grade II listed in 1984 it was called the Hobbit Inn, it is now The Bull's Head, a free house.

Of coursed limestone rubble with gritstone dressings and quoins to the early part, and limestone dressings and quoins to C18th section, concrete tiles were put on the roofs in the C20th. The west part, the original building, has stone coped gables with moulded kneelers, one gable end stack and one ridge stack, both of stone. On the ground floor to the left end there is an arched door with incised spandrels and a quoin surround, it is now blocked. The lintel is inscribed 'HG 16+90 EG'. Beyond to the east is a large C19th three-light mullion window, a C19th plank door with large lintel and dripmould, then another two-light mullion window, C20th, and finally in a flush gritstone surround with plain jambs and lintel, a doorcase topped by a flat stone hood on brackets. This is now the main entrance in to the pub. On the second floor above the blocked door is a small blocked, recessed and chamfered opening. Further east are similar windows to those below in the same arrangement.

Further to east there is a C18th three storey extension of two bays width. There are two large chamfered windows with hoods to the ground floor. Above two similar, smaller, windows, and two further similar windows to the eaves. All fenestration is C20th. To the right-hand-side the west wall has a two-light recessed and chamfered mullion window, which was formerly a four-light. Above this two two-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows, one formerly three-light. There are two stone gable end stacks.

The interior has some stud partitioning, a large bracketed fireplace and some ovolo moulded beams. The building was formerly used as courthouse for Lead mining disputes.
