It is primarily a transmission tower located close to the summit of Mount Rigi. It has a public observation platform at a height of about 7 meters (out of 96 meters in all). This is not very high, but Mount Rigi is a freestanding mountain with a height of 1800 meters above sea level, and about 1200 meters above the average surrounding ground level. It offers a breathtaking view over hundreds of kilometers to the Alps and over the lakes of Central Switzerland. The tower additionally lets you look at all directions from the same locations.
Or you have bad luck - as we had - and the clouds have exactly the same height as the mountain and you can hardly see the things more than 10 meters away.
