Mr Roy Bubb was the Clerk and Chief Financial Officer of the Bakewell Urban District Council and Chief Executive of the Derbyshire Dales District Council for many years. He lived from 1934 to 1988 and his life is comemmorated in the placing of this sundial here in the Memorial Gardens in the centre of Bakewell.
The sundial is made of brass with a brass gnomon. It is mounted on a stone plinth, coved and pedimented, on a two-step square mount, and placed just off the footpath around the lawn of the gardens.
The indicated sun times are from 5.00am to 7.00pm, and there is a correction graph to calculate true time dependant upon observation month.
Latitude and Longitude are given as: 53° 12' 47" North and 1° 40' 26" West.
