The city of Pakse is the capital of the Champasak province of southern Laos. This city sits on the northern banks of the Mekong River. Linking this pleasant city to the southern side of the river, and onwards to Cambodia and Vietnam is this Japanese funded suspension bridge.

The bridge is 1,380m long, built from reinforced concrete, and officially named the 'Lao-Nippon Bridge', however, locally, it is invariably referred to as the 'Japan Bridge'. There are two lanes of vehicular traffic, plus pedestrian walkways on either side. The bridge was dedicated in 2000. Waymark made on the southern side of the bridge.
