The flagpoles are fixed close to the root of a pier that extends out into the River Thames. A supermarket chain, Morrisons, has sponsored the flagpoles and the Deep Wharf pier that is close by.

This location has two similar flagpoles that are about 20 metres (65 feet) tall. At the head of each mast is the Union flag, or Union Jack, as it is sometimes called. On each gaff is the flag of St George.

There is a halyard connected to each end of each yard giving four groups of flags. The flags used are from the International Code of Signals with only the alphabet flags being used.
