This lookout point is atop a hill to the south of the City of Pakse. To reach this point one must first cross the 'Japanese' bridge (funded by Japan, and thus, no doubt, eternally to be referred to in this fashion) from the city. This can be down on foot, but a bike or rental vehicle is the better option. Then the ascent of the steps. I did not count, but more than a few, in several stages. Not difficult, but carry your own water.

Once on top before you will be a 'Big Buddha' statue, which gazes downwards towards the city, across the Mekong. Quiet a view. This hill top is in the intermediate stages of becoming a tourist park, a sign of a slowly improving economy.

The City of Pakse was designed and constructed a century ago by the French colonial administration. It is a pleasant city, and, as it is surrounded on three sides by water, it is usually cool (relatively). The city is also the largest city and the provincial capital of the Champasak province. From here one can reach the several tourist spots in the province, and proceed onwards to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.

There was no cost when I ascended (August 2011), though this may change when the park is complete. There was no sign of restricted night entry, however, climbing the open wooden steps, the last stage of the climb, at night would be daring.

For whatever reason, I had trouble obtaining a good gps signal on the hilltop. Thus the location might not be entirely exact. If you have a better, please submit.
