The monument was created by an artist called Aureliano, who's also the creator of another work placed in a nearby roundabout, dedicated to the firemen.
Almodôvar had a considerable tradition in shoemaking during the 40's and 70's of the 20th Century. In a given moment about 200 shoe makers were registered in this small town.
