A great view looking south into the stratovolcano's crater where the lava dome building is visible. You can also get a good view of Spirit Lake.

Mt. St. Helens is legendary. There is so much material available on the mountain, its famous 1980 eruption and its current activity that I will not repeat it here.
I like this particular view point because on a hot summer day fewer people want to make the hike out to the viewpoint because there is no shade. There is also no protection from thunderstorms that pass through which can cause a bit of excitement if you have young kids.
This particular point is nice because it gets you away from the visitors' centers and out into the former blast zone. It is just far enough to make a good hike for my 9 year old but my 5 year old needs a little help.

Always check for trail closures. Escalating activity at the mountain could close trails at any time.
