In Dover, by a pasture and a few houses that might remind someone of a typical rural New England landscape, is a four-way road intersection where four roads come together: Springdale Avenue, Main Street, Farm Street, and Pegan Lane.

Today, there is nothing notable at this intersection - not even a corner store. Many years ago, however, Dover's town center used to be at this intersection. The town was originally named Springfield, since there were several streams and springs within a short distance of this location. The Dover Historical Society has a model that models the center of town, that included a blacksmith that used water from the stream at this intersection for power. When the settlement incorporated into a town, however, the name became Dover.

Springdale Avenue extends east from this intersection to the present center of Dover, which sprang up when the railroad went through the town. Main Street extending north to South Natick was named while the town center was still there. Farm Street extending south to Medfield, and still runs by pastures. Pegan Lane extending west toward Pegan Hill, was name for the Pegan family - a Native American family. Note that Pegan Lane is a dead end road - the road is no longer passable to South Natick despite what some maps show.

All-in-all, the area is a nice drive on a Saturday or Sunday.
