Approaching Norway on US 2, whether from the east or west, visitors are welcomed to the town by a viking boat with sail set. The boat is metal, the mast is wood, and the sail has what you need to know to make your stay in Norway more than just an overnight stop with the town web address prominently displayed as part of this innovative sign.
Norway, a town of about 3000, is either named after the country of an early iron mine owner or the Norway Pine that grows in the area. Either way, the sign reflects the Scandinavian heritage of many of the towns early citizens. Just east of town is the Iron Mountain Iron Mine which offers tours, complete with a mine train ride back into the mine. South of town the Piers Gorge offers views of four different waterfalls. Local history can be seen in the Norway Historical Museum and there are quaint shops in the old downtown area. The mines may be closed, but Norway lives on.
