The Silver Bay Safe Harbor and Marina is a “cooperative project between city of Silver Bay, Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources, U.S. Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.” The facility which includes a marina, public access and day-use park, was completed in 1999, and is a popular place in the summer months. There is also a short hike to a scenic overlook.
The marina is located at Bayside Park on Lake Superior just south of the town of Silver Bay, 52 miles north of Duluth. It offers 108 slips that range from 30’ to 60’ in length; 68 are reserved for seasonal use and 40 for guest boats. Each has electricity and water available. The marina offers gas and diesel fuel, sewer pump, restroom and shower facilities, a laundry, food concessions. Picnic, diving access, a fish cleaning station, and two protected boat ramps are conveniently located with plenty of parking for both cars and trailers. Winter boat storage is also available.
The marina is open from the middle of May to the Middle of October depending on the weather conditions. It is operational daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
