The text on this sign reads:

“The young adventurers
Yale University students put Lake Louise on the map

In the summer of 1894, Walter Wilcox from Yale University and four school friends tramped through these mountains, photographing, mapping, surveying and writing. Wilcox returned to Lake Louise almost every year until his death. He published two books about his adventures, weaving the lure of the mountains into each page. His photography and writing enticed many to come for a firsthand glimpse of "wild and rugged" Lake Louise. “

Walter Dwight Wilcox wrote: "Camping in the Canadian Rockies: An Account of Camp Life in the Wilder Parts of the Canadian Rocky Mountains (1896) which was the very first major book about the Rockies, and was and inspiration for many others to explore the area. This book went thru several editions, and was eventually printed in an enlarged format under the title The Rockies of Canada (1900). In 1909 Wilcox published another popular book called the Guide to the Lake Louise District which was a detailed trail aid, and was very popular. It quickly went out of print. The Guide included Wilcox’s detailed, scientific descriptions of the area.
